A type of hat currently making headlines is the fascinator, as it has become a favorite of women in England’s Royal family, such as Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa. However, the fascinator hat has been around since the 1770s. 

It also enjoyed a very popular season as recently as the 1960s. This style has  now resurged as a popular favorite since 2011, and is one of the most sought after hats on today’s market.

Somewhat larger than a barrette, contemporary fascinators are typically made with flowers, feathers, or beads, and must be attached to the hair by a clip, headband, comb or specially made fastener. 

They make excellent cocktail hats, and can complement essentially any formal outfit or trendy ensemble you create.

Interestingly, no one has to spend a fortune to acquire an attractive hat, as there are many reasonably priced styles available.

However, you may also decide to try a simple fedora hat or a timeless classic, such as the pillbox hat made famous by Jackie Kennedy or even a boater or trilby.
